Gensler Beijing New Office : Design Ideas

Gensler新的北京办公室选址在侨福芳草地，国内首个LEED 铂金认证建筑和艺术圣地。设计伊始，如何延续自然及艺术之旅，同时又能凸显Gensler自身的企业文化和特色，兼顾员工和访客的角色使用需求，成为了Gensler设计师们所要面临的挑战。

Gensler's new Beijing office is located in Parkview Green, the first LEED Platinum certified building and art sanctuary in China. Our team’s vision in designing the new office was to extend the journey of art and nature into our own space, while alsohighlighting Gensler's own corporate identity. Additionally, a key priority was to balance both employees and visitors’ needs and ensure that the space provides both for variety of work modes and styles. .

办公室所在位置是楼层边侧的两个单元，距离电梯有一定距离，在充分考虑建筑本身布局后，不同于两个单元正中间布置入口的传统做法，把入口位置放在聚焦内角，大大提升了访客的到达感以及品牌意识。

Considering the building layout and long distance from the elevator,  a different approach to the traditional practice of placing the entrance at the center of the rented space was adopted:  the entrance position is placed in the concave angle, which greatly enhances the visitor's sense of arrival.

每个空间的多样面

书桌型前台、玄关、隐藏的café Bar的灵动组合，使得在有限的空间内很好的诠释了多元化办公。前台两侧分别布置了会议室，其中南侧临街面的会议室利用建筑本身12米的柱距，打造成开敞式空间，两侧全部打开的折叠门，可以让人尽情领略独特的“卷轴式”长安街景观。紧邻会议室是一个相对独立的开放交流空间，设计灵感来源于“户外草坪”，智能系统的配备让员工可以在放松畅想的空间下，真正把有限空间做到了无限可能。

Diverse faces of each space

The smart combination of desk-style front desk, porch, and hidden café bar at the reception area speaks to the "multifaceted formula" applied in the design of the space. Two meeting rooms are located on both sides of the front desk and a “street” between them leads into the work area The meeting room on the south side of the street uses the 12-meter column spacing of the building to create an open space. The two sides feature foldable partition doors that can be fully opened, allowing people to enjoy the unique "scroll-style" Chang'an Street landscape. The opposite north conference room is a relatively independent open communicative space. The design is inspired by the “outdoor lawn”. The smart TV system  equipped with diverse content allows the limited-in-size space to evolve into unlimited possibilities.

独特的木屋

以回收原木打造的小木屋格外吸引人眼球，这个兼具使用和独特的多功能空间，既有一定的私密性，满足日常员工互动，同时也将正对入口的柱子进行了完美隐藏，同时在隐藏处兼容了日常办公设备。

Unique wooden house

The log cabin made of recycled wooden planks is particularly eye-catching. This versatile semi private space allows for casual meetings and brainstorms to occur without disrupting focus work   ,  It also serves an aesthetic purpose by hiding the pillar of the entrance as well asallowing for space to place a print room withvarious office equipment away from the visitors eyes.

“我们从哪里来”

贯穿整个办公室采光幕墙的一道“时间卷轴”是设计的又一大亮点，这条主轴将人类文明发展历史，建筑历史，Gensler发展历史中的重要事件节点一一做了标注，让员工了解历史的同时也凸显了Gensler作为设计公司独有的气质。

"Where are we from?"

A “time reel” throughout the office LED wall is another highlight of the design. This main axis marks the history of human civilization, architectural history, and important events in the history of Gensler, allowing employees to understand history while also highlighting Gensler’s unique culture

“水晶体”的内涵

水晶体，本身没有颜色，但会随着光的照射呈现千变万化的颜色。地毯选择上，遵循了这一设计理念，以灰色和米色搭配为主，同时利用搭建室内三维素模，将物体影子用深色地毯反映出来，自然的意境得以提升。

The connotation of "crystal"

The crystal itself has no color, but it will display an ever-changing color with the illumination of the light. This was the design concept applied in the selection of carpets. We used a  combination of gray and beige and at the same time, three-dimensional models were used to reflect the shadow of the object into the dark carpet.

办公室随处可见的混凝土小摆件、 绿植的搭配，活泼的员工墙、工艺摆放等都彰显细节，富有创意，为员工创造了舒适的工作环境。

Small concrete ornaments and indoor plants are scattered throughout the office and add to the lively staff wall and the artisanal crafts-  all of these elements coming together to show details in thinking and creativity. The byproduct is also a comfortable working environment for the employees.

在设计总监Emma Chang带领下，趣味性、舒适、创造力、绿色可持续贯穿整个办公室的设计中，无论是宏观还是微观层面，均体现出与建筑的浑然一体，获得了LEED 和Well双标准认证。

The end result was a fun, comfortable, creative, and green office environment.  From a macro planning perspective to micro detail level, the office is integrated with the building and perfectly executed leaving no details unaccounted for.  Focus on sustainability and employee wellness was also key and the office achieved  both LEED and Well certification.
